Only a brief 20-minute drive from the lodge stands the Sesriem Gate, the entrance to the iconic red sand dunes of Sossusvlei. Hoodia Desert Lodge, opened in 2008, epitomises hospitality on an individual and intimate scale. With only 11 luxury chalets strategically spaced for maximum privacy, the lodge ensures a tranquil environment amidst the breathtaking desert landscape. Each chalet features a relaxed atmosphere, blending luxury and nature seamlessly. The accommodation includes air-conditioned, thatched chalets with en-suite bathrooms, featuring open-air showers and generous bathtubs. Additional amenities comprise a coffee station, fridge, mosquito net, and a private shaded deck. The main building offers a shaded outside lounge deck, a refreshing pool area, a lounge with a fireplace, a restaurant with a central fireplace, and an elegant bar, creating an inviting setting for a memorable stay. Owned and managed by the Becker family, the lodge combines professional hospitality with a personal touch, promising a delightful culinary experience crafted by skilled chefs.

Consequently, Hoodia Desert Lodge have made it our mission to share our passion and expertise about the enchanting Namib Desert with our guests. We invite them to join us for a distinctive, off-the-beaten-track experience, delving into the secrets of the desert.
Our goal is to offer a unique encounter with nature, focusing on less-explored locations rarely mentioned in guidebooks—especially pertinent in light of the escalating tourist numbers in the Sossusvlei area.
Embark on a journey from the lodge after breakfast, setting out before sunrise with our experienced guide in our 4X4 Safari Vehicle. Highlights of the day include sunrise at Sesriem Gate, historical insights into the National Park, and exploration of the Petrified Dunes. We venture off the beaten path, delving into the world of lizards, beetles, scorpions, spiders, and snakes, weather permitting for optimal track visibility.
Further off the beaten tracks, our guide shares knowledge about birdlife, with a focus on the endemic Dune Lark. Photography stops at prominent dunes precede our entry into the ancient Tsauchab River bed, where 4×4 engagement is essential. As we cruise through, our guide lectures on flora and fauna, leading us to a hike to Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei, using “secret routes” to minimise encounters with other visitors. A coffee and tea break in the Sossusvlei area, featuring seasonal fruits and homemade cookies, offers a delightful respite.
Before midday, we return to “Elim Dune” for an elegant “Out of Africa” picnic lunch under a majestic Camel Thorn Tree. The lunch setup includes table, chairs, tablecloth, cutlery, wine cooler, glasses, and a selection of freshly prepared cold food and beverages.
A visit to Sesriem Canyon, including a hike down the canyon with historical and geological insights, is an optional addition to the day’s itinerary.
Our all-inclusive Sossusvlei Excursions cover entrance fees, food, snacks, water, cool drinks, juices, lunch, wine, and beer. During dune climbs, guides ensure guests are supplied with water and snacks.
Our Lodge is surrounded by magnificent landscapes with a breath-taking view heading west over the red sand dunes. That fact allows us to experience fantastic sun sets nearly every day of the year.
We offer our guests with pleasure a sun set drive taking them out to a special place on one of our hills to give them the opportunity to witness this breath-taking spectacle.
Here we love to give our guests an intimate experience allowing them privacy in leaving them alone on a romantic spot without any danger.
The setup is very sophisticated and includes table, table cloth, chairs, fine decoration and a chandelier to give our guests a warm light after sun set. We offer freshly prepared snacks and traditional sun downer drinks. For our Honeymoon guests we offer with compliments a bottle of fine South African sparkling wine.
Approx. 45min after sun set we pick our guests up and bring them back to the lodge. We experienced in the past how much our guest appreciate this treatment for body and soul.
We include in the price of our Sun Downer traditional sun downer drinks like Gin Tonic or Campari Orange, Beer, House Wines, Juices, Cool Drinks and Water.
