Nestled within the African Mopani bush, Ongava Tented Camp seamlessly blends with the untamed beauty of its surroundings. Situated in a concealed valley at the base of a dolomite hill, this classic safari-style camp is located in the Ongava Game Reserve, sharing a border with the renowned Etosha National Park.
Eight spacious Meru-style tents offer guests a comfortable retreat, each equipped with en-suite facilities, open-air showers, and private verandas. The family unit provides accommodations for four, ensuring a memorable family safari experience. The main area, constructed with a combination of stone, canvas, and thatch, overlooks a frequently visited waterhole. Observing wildlife gathering at the waterhole, either from the main area or the refreshing swimming pool, is a cherished pastime at Ongava Tented Camp.
The camp’s strategic proximity to Etosha National Park allows guests to embark on captivating game drives within the park and explore the diverse ecosystems of the Ongava Reserve. Additional activities include guided walks, birdwatching, and visits to wildlife hides. Notably, Ongava plays a crucial role in rhino conservation, holding one of the largest rhino custodianships for the Namibian government, offering a rare opportunity for guests to encounter both black and white rhino species.
Ongava Tented Camp boasts eight generously sized Meru-style tents, each featuring en-suite facilities, invigorating open-air showers, and private verandas. For families, the camp offers a dedicated unit accommodating up to four individuals. The main area, constructed from stone, canvas, and thatch, overlooks a bustling waterhole, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and wildlife observation.
Guests at Ongava Tented Camp can indulge in a range of activities, including game drives in the iconic Etosha National Park and the Ongava Reserve. The camp also offers guided walks, birding excursions, and opportunities to visit strategically located hides for unique wildlife encounters. Ongava Tented Camp’s commitment to conservation is exemplified by its status as one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where visitors can witness both black and white rhino, contributing to the preservation of these magnificent species.
Guided afternoon/evening game drives take place on the 30 000-hectare private Ongava Game Reserve. The reserve is famed for its population of rhino as well as lion and other game such as antelope, including endemic black-faced impala, and zebra.
Full- or half-day guided morning game drives in the Etosha National Park, Namibia’s prime savannah wilderness area (with packed lunch on full day). See the massive saltpan as well as the perennial springs that provide the water required by the Park’s high-density big game population.
Offered seasonally and subject to an available walking guide, nature walks through the area take in the abundant array of life, from unusual plants to arid-adapted animals, with a chance of approaching white rhino.
Guests can interface with science and research across the Ongava Game Reserve and part of this experience is an immersion into the world of natural history and science at the new Ongava Visitor Centre. With dozens of in-depth displays that feature information on the geology, animals, plants and ecological functioning of this fascinating region, guests are encouraged to meander through the self-guided exhibition area.
